The interaction between mould and shell has close relationship with strand quantities and breakout, and is the key for realizing high speed and high quantities in continuous casting (c. c.) Investigating the characteristics of mould friction and its application for on line measurement will play an important role in monitoring practice of mould process in (c. c.). The two parts of research have been included.The part of software:1. A set of test and collection software that faces various A/Dboard was built;2. A system that measures mould friction for Bao steel was built;3. The database that has powerful function and compatibility wasdeveloped;4. Based on the characteristic of database, the software that deals with data and pictures was developed for off-line analysis.The analysis about inspected-data have shown the following: l.With the increase of oscillator's service times, Kb increases;2. The friction increases sharply when the on line varying slab size is conducted;3. The relationship between the change of casting speed and the mould friction is inverse ratio;4. Unstable "operation, such as varying slab size and the beginning of a new casting, can make the friction vary obviously;5. The mould friction increases sharply or gradually due to pre-warning of mould temperature system;6. The mould friction increases gradually before breakout.
