This paper presents on-line measurement of mould friction(MDF) and the applications with MDF in continuous casting. With the spread and application of hydraulic oscillators in continuous casting, the on-line measurement method of mould friction is coming to a new subject. Under this circumstances, the on-line measuring method of mould friction is investigated in this paper. Based on theoretic analysis, a mathematic model of on-line measurement is built, and its correctness and error is discussed. At the same time, the relation between measuring parameter and oscillating parameter is investigated. Finally, the primary on-line measuring method is put forward in the paper.Analysis of characteristic of MDF abnormity Based on the measuring data of mould friction of continuous slab casting in steel plant, the fluctuation characteristic of MDF and its rootmeansquare has been studied on the unstable conditions, such as breakout, temperature system warning, abnormity of submerged entry nozzle, mould level fluctuation, and on-line change of slab width.Study on the prediction method of MDF abnormity and development of software for abnormal analysis Based on the above analysis, a prediction method for MDF abnormity has been built employing neural network and two abnormal models: ramp and puise judgments. A set of software of abnormal analysis of MDF has been developed. According to abnormal records of steel plant, the software can forecast accurately most abnormities, and it can make prediction several minutes ahead of temperature system warning. The results show that the method is dependable and it demonstrates remarkable potential for application in abnormal prediction.
