Metal complexes of Schiff bases have occupied a central role in the development of coordination chemistry this is manifested by the huge number of publications ranging from pharmaceutical chemistry to biochemical relevant studies. In this paper, we report the synthesis and characterization of a series of complexes of metal nitrate with Schiff base derived from 4-aminoantipyrine and thenoyltrifluoroacetone . The structure analysis of this Schiff base ligand by X-ray diffraction methods indicates that it is an neutral tridentate in the ketoenamine form. At different concentrations of the complexes in DMIF, the complexes have been screened for their antibacterial activities against two bacteria. The results of the antibacterial activity against two bacteria indicate that the Schiff base ligand is found to be inactive against two bacteria but the complexes have the activity of inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aures . Thus could be resulted from the complexation by which increases the electron density of the metal ion through partial sharing of its positive charge with donor groups. The properties of lanthanide complexes of 4N- (thenoyltrifluoroacetony- lidene)-aminoantipyrine are studied with fluorescence spectroscopies. In addition, we report the synthesis and crystal structure of a neutral pentanuclear copper(ll) complex containing a three-dimensional copper-nitrogen cluster based on the assembly of molecular components. The pentanuclear copper(ll) complex is composed of a distorted tetrahedral arrangement of four five-coordinate Cu(JI) atoms [Cu 1, Cu2, Cu3 ,Cu4] centred on the fifth [Cu5]. The six-coordination geometry about Cu5 is distorted octahedral.
