Superoxide Dismutase(SOD) is antioxidant enzyme that defend the cells against damage by oxygen free radicals. It appears to play an important role in controlling oxidative stress, which is thought to contribute to the development and progression of consenescense, carcinogenesis or cancer, inflammation etc. Because of its limit in practicality, the design and application of the synthesis of low molecular weight metal complexes containing Cu, Zn, Mn etc. as SOD mimics have received considerable attention. From the point of development, sort, structure research including identical sequence, the developed history and researching work of Superoxide Dismutase are present in the article. The relatively mature catalytic mechanism, the structure research of Cu, Zn-SOD, Ni-SOD, Mn-SOD and Fe-SOD and theirs model complexes are also reported.Pyridine, 2-aminePyridine are singled out as the third little ligands to synthesize complex (1) and complex (2). The coordination geometry around Cu( II) in complex (1) is a distorted tetragonal pyramid. But Cu( II) in complex (2) can be described as a slightly distorted square plane. The complexes are consequently synthesized and characterized. The chemical synthesis, IR, UV, X-ray crystal structure determination, and catalysis activity determination of the two new model complexes are also reported here. The SOD like activity of the two complexes have been measure by the method based reduction of nitroblue terrazolium (NBT) with lactoflavin. The results demonstrate all tested complexes have good SOD-like activities, complex(1) and complex(2) with IC50 = 0.45 × 10-9 g/mL and IC50 = 6.75 × 10-9 g/mL respectively.
