In this paper, the catalysts of the system using BTCA astbrmaldehyde-free durable press finishing agent were studied. One ofthe most effective catalysts for this system was sodiumhypophosphate (SHP). It has, however, some disadvantages, such asthe environmental pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to fine somenon-phosphorus catalysts to take place of SHP.Two main aspects were contained in this paper: the catalysismechanism of sodium of polycarboxylic acids. and the comparison ofthe catalysis ability of these catalysts. In the catalysis mechanism, wefound BTCA can react with sodium polycarboxylate yielding salts ofboth the two acids which make BTCA conversing to its cyclicanhydride more quickly. The carboxyl anion and the hydrogen protonin polycarboxylic can serve as Lewis base and Lewis acidrespectively to accelerate the reaction. The hydroxyl group in hydroxyl acid can enhance thereactivity of BTCA by esterification with carboxyl group in BTCAyielding product with more carboxyl groups. And thus improve theDP properties of treated fabric. In the comparison, sodium citrate wasthe best one in the research. And its catalysis effect is close to that ofSHP. Because it has no environment problems, it is fit for the requestsof continueable development.
