With the approach of the second water storage of the Three Gorges Project, urban migration has come to a head. However, being influenced by economical, social or some other factors, of all the problems involved, the ecological problems have apparently become pressing. All these problems are exerting great impact upon the speed and quality of new city or town construction and upon residents, normal life and their living environment or even endangering the development of a whole city. For these reasons, this paper, by means of urban ecology, landscape ecology, people living environment ecology as well as the principle of sustainable development, ecologically, alms at thoroughly studying and analyzing the ecological problem in urban migration, and corresponding strategies and approaches, in order to promote ecological environment construction of new cities and give impetus to sustainable development of the whole living environment in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region. The present paper falls into the following four major parts: 1. Ecological problems of urban migration. Through a comprehensive analysis of influence the Three Gorges project has imposed upon the urban balance of nature in reservoir region, and many ecological problems occurring in the course of urban migration the author has illustrated in detail the necessity and importance of applying ecological theory to urban migration, 2. An analysis of the traditional urban balance of nature in the reservoir region. Based upon the on-the-spot investigation and studies, the author has made a deep analysis of the urban system of the traditional towns or cities, the relation between cities or towns and natural environment, along with the balance of nature concerning urban patterns, and has offered a solid foundation on exploring ecological strategies and urban migration. 3. A study of strategies and approaches about urban migration in Three Gorges Reservoir Region. In accordance with science of urban planning, urban ecology, landscape ecology, living environment ecology, and the theory of sustainable development, the author has explored the ecological strategy and approaches on urban migration in the respect of urban planning, urban design and new city construction. 4. Construction of Landscape embellished new city characterized by sustainable development. By analyzing examples concerned, the author has summarized the characteristics of cities characterized by sustainable development urban planning and design, together with ecological theory and approaches of new city construction. According to the above mentioned, he has attempted to come up with the three required conditions for new cities: Scientific choice of urban location, urban planning and design with ecological value, conformity to planning and natural urban ecological construction...
