In recent 20 years, indoor air quality has became a research focus in the field of building environment due to people's demand on living standard and environment. Indeterminacy exists in the influencing factors and indoor air quality itself. Based on assessment of indoor air quality and its application, we analyze the inherent characteristics and rules of this grey system, which generally we are short of adequate information to describe, using grey system theory.Firstly, we analyze the influence of indoor air contaminations on inhabitants' subject evaluation to indoor air, and calculate the degree of grey incidence between indoor contamination level and dissatisfaction rate at indoor air or ill symptom rate. This study reveals the relationship between this factors, and shows which we should pay more attention to in design and maintenance of indoor environment. In order to give expression to the indeterminacy, we introduce grey structure, grey parameter and grey variable into the determinate indoor air quality models. The grey models are important tools to forecast, evaluate and control indoor contamination level, because they not only make best of the existing knowledge, but also correctly take the grey characteristics into consideration. Finally, this paper establishes a grey method of assessing indoor air quality based on the abundant information provided by grey incidence matrix and illuminates the application of grey cluster in predigesting the evaluation parameters.
