In this thesis, the synthetic processes of 2,4-di(l-phenyl-isopropyl)phenol from phenol through aryl-alkylation with a-methylstyrene and UV234 [2-(2H-benzotriazole -2-yl)-4,6-bis(l -methyl-1-phenylethyl)phenol] from 2,4-di(l-phenyl-isopropyl)phenol] through coupling and reducing are studied; the conditions of the alkylating, coupling and reducing are searched.The UV absorption spectrums and the molar extinction coefficients at the maximum absorbance of UV234, UV II [2-(2H-benzotriazole-2-yl)-4-(l-methyl-1 -phenylethyl)phenol], UV5411 and UV326 in chloroform, methanol and toluene are determined, and the effects of different substituents and different solvents on the UVA are discussed. The thermal weight analysis with UV234, UV II, UV5411 and UV326 is done, and the effect of different substituting groups on the thermostability of the UVA is discussed.
