The article the relation between national costume pattern and religion-Taoism ismainly about how the Taoism, which originated from China, has an impact on the Chinese traditional costume culture, especially for the pattern and color of the costume.Firstly, this essay introduces the basic facts of Taoism, and analyzes the development of Chinese traditional costume design during the formation of Taoism. Moreover, it discuss the effects which Taoism has on costume design .The mainbody of the thesis consists of five parts. In the chapters "the relation between Taoism and totem pattern" and the chapter "lucky pattern and Taoism", by analyzing the content with thought mode in Chinese traditional pattern culture during the past thousands of years, it draws conclusions that Taoism thought and thinking mode is the origine and methodology of Chinese traditional costume pattern culture. In the "the relation between Taoism and minority", it explains that original religion of southwest minority and the native costume there is theoretically based on Taoism. Besides, it illustrates the development of Taoism in northwest minority, pointing out that although for centuries Islamism is very commen in these area, historically speaking Taoism is once the main thought here. Accordingly, Taoism culture has somewhat marked in the costume pattern culture here. Simply because costume can't be easily kept well for such a long time, additionally, when the Islamism culture was taken in and has covered the Taoism so that it has difficulty in distinguishing Taoism from Islamism. As far as this field is concerned, much more things need further finding during the research in days to come.Lastly, from the aspect of color, which is the affiliated part of pattern, the article proves that Taoism plays a critical role in Chinese traditional costume pattern culture. Now I'd like to reaffirm the topic of this thesis. The Taoism .which originated from Chinese motherland is the foundation and headspring of Chinese costume culture.
