Mold parting surface design is the key factor of the mold gross structure design. If the design of parting surface is not suitable, plastic part's removing from the mold will be difficult and the mold gross structure will be more complex. So the research on the parting surface design technology and method is becoming one of the important facets in the field of the injection mold CAD.On the basis of the comprehensive analysis about the automatic design of the injection mold parting surface, according to the feature of strongly experience and weakly theory in the process of the injection mold design, this paper presents a method which introduce case-based reasoning into the computer-aided design of the injection mold parting surface, which aims to improve the automatization degree of the mold parting surface design and provide the technology support to the realization of the intellectualized design system of the injection mold.The system is composed of the module of feature modeling, realization module of CBR-based mold parting surface design and help information module of the parting surface design. The whole frame of the CBR-based mold parting surface design is constructed by using feature technology and the method of object-oriented case information expression. The automatic generating of the parting surface is elementarily realized.In the module of feature modeling, it does deep research on the feature classification, operation of the feature, relationship among features and the feature recognition technology. The seamless connection between the module of feature modeling and parting surface design is realized by making use of these technologies in the system.In the realization module of CBR-based mold parting surface design, the principle of CBR and it's application in the field of mold paring surface design are researched detailedly. Through the analysis of the case model structure, parting surface cases library is built; According to the study of knowledge expression of the shape feature of the cases, forward reasoning mechanism is constructed based on the production rule; Similarity solution model of the mold parting surface generating is built, which can be used to generate parting surface followed getting the case through reasoning.Help information module of the parting surface design summarizes the basic knowledge of the parting surface design. Finally, a sample is given to test the feasibility of the system.Run platform of the system is AutoCAD, and a user-friedly interface is customized.
