The modified starch flocculant was synthesized through carboxymethylation, graft copolyraerization and Mannich reaction.Effects of the dosage of ClCH2COONa , reaction temperature , reaction time, the dosage of CH3CH2OH and the dosage of NaOH on degree of substitutionwere studied by single factor method and perpendicular experiment. Thecondition of obtaining the maximal degree of substitution was founded.Effects of the dosage of acrylamide, grafting reaction time, initiatordosage and reaction temperature on characteristic conglutination of themodified starch flocculant were also studied by single factor method. Thecondition of obtaining the optial characteristic conglutination wasfounded. The flocculation performance was examined in oiliness waste water ofNanjing refinery, restaurant and catering services waste water and wastewater of Maanshan ironworks. The results show the flocculationperformance of the modified starch flocculant is better than PHP' s(M=10million) and CPAM' s(M=3 million), and approaches the import flocculantAN926SH' s.The structure of the modified starch flocculant was characterized byFTIR, NMR and TGA.
