As a great lot of applications of composite materials, the low cost, high property is the major target of composites development.A new low cost manufacturing process - Vacuum Assistant Resin Transfer Moulding (VARTM) and the rhcological characteristics of a kind of modified bismaleimide resin (named as 5406),which is suitable for VARTM, was studied. In addition,the chemical reactivity, resin mechanics properties and the influence of polymer ether imide (PEI) toughening 5406 resin were discussed in the thesis . The composite materials of 5406/fiber were produced by VARTM ,the mechanics properties and microcosmic structure were studies in the paper.The results shows:5406 resin can be cured in 143.6℃~233℃,the best cure processing is 180℃/1h+200℃/2h,postcure is 230℃/4h.The properties of flexural strengh and tensile strengh is respectively 189Mpa and 93.6 Mpa.The flexural strengh retains 64.5% in 150℃.We found the viscosity was less than l00mPa·s in 120℃~210 ℃,only 20 mPa·s in 160℃ .The time of viscosity less than 100 mPa·s can contain l00min in 130℃~140℃.So low viscosity and long time can assure 5406 used by VARTM .When 15phr PEI was used in 5406 resin,the impact strengh increased from 20.4Mpa to 28.4Mpa.Three different composite materials were produced by VARTM,the result shows: the flexural strengh of S-glass fiber/5406 and T-700S/5406 is respectively 1836.7Mpa and 2060Mpa.The tensile strengh of T-700S/5406 is 2198.3Mpa,the properties of shear strengh is more than 100Mpa.Lastly,the component of fiber reforced 5406 resin has been produced by VARTM,and it can run very well.
