Today, at the situation of protecting environment and saving energy, there are many problems existing in the process of warping sizing—sizing pollution, a great usage of energy and material, tedious operation, difficult control of slashing, etc., which are seem to be increasingly outstanding. In this paper, we investigated a novel sizing process using water-soluble PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) fiber, which could take the place of the present warping sizing process. In contrast to the traditional sizing, the new method, which does not produce pollution to environment, avoids the sizing making and simplifies the sizing process.Main contents of this thesis is as followed. After the operation of carding, combing, finisher drawing, roving and spinning, blended yarn made by water-soluble PVA fiber and cotton fiber existed three different proportions of PVA. Meanwhile, core-spun yarn was made by ring spinning frame, which involves a core of cotton yarn with a covering of PVA fiber. According to the experimental project using orthogonal design, which the conditions of the technics and the equipment were consociated to sixteen experiments, the four kinds of yarn passed by the hot water within size box and accomplished the process of sizing. Then, through the tests of the important guidelines, namely, strength, elongation, hairiness, resistance to attrition and the result of the cross section of yarn, we may analyses the measured value of every kind of function indices, and contrast to equivalent cotton yarn. In the end, applying statistical approaches, we could obtain the values of tests of between-subjects effects. As a result, marked factors and arrangement of optimum levels could be confirmed. Finally, considering all kinds of conditions, we ascertain the optimum novel sizing process, that is, the proportion of water-soluble PVA on 56.35% and 22.30%, water temperature on 98°C, velocity on 30m/min,pressure of squeeze roll on 5N/cm, drying temperature on 100°C, the weight rate of water and yarn on 30, the disposed type of wet warps with steel clips. In this process, the cotton fiber was cohered with some solubilized PVA to reduce hairiness and improve strength and resistance to attrition. All made it possible that the new method could replace the traditional warp sizing method.Slashed yarns with optimum conditions were weaved in small type of weaving machine. It could be seen that the shedding opened clearly. Few breaking yarn and little increased hairy made the weaving process favourable. The sample of the cloth was neat. We therefore concluded that yarns handled by new sizing method could completely reach the requests of weaving process. It could further make conclusion that the novel sizing process using water-soluble PVA fiber may be feasible.
