Tung oil is a kind of special local resources in China. Its utilization is limited technically in our country. The research of this theme is hope to lead a new epoch for the utilization of these kinds of natural products.According to the former study results, it is impossible to carry out an ordinary latex copolymerization of tung oil and styrene. Two new methods of emulsified copolymerization are put forward in the paper, the copolymerization of styrene and tung oil initiated by the oxidation of tung oil and soap-free emulsion polymerization of styrene and monoglyceride bis-maleate half ester(abbreviated as TOMG/MA).1. According to its self-polymerized characterization after being oxidized in the air, tung oil can be copolymerized with styrene without addition of any original initiator. The copolymer of natural product and man-made monomer can be obtained. The products were characterized by several modern analytic ways, such as FT-IR, 1H-NMR, DSC and so on. Based on these results, the monomer reactivity ratio can be calculated to be γ1=2.1 and γ2=6, respectively. At the same time, the special mechanism of free-radical polymerization is explored. It is after tung oil is oxidized, the peroxide products, which include hydrogen peroxide or 1,4 ring-peroxide can be formed, and initiate the copolymerization of styrene and tung oil. The study concludes the mechanism and proves it. It shows the way of 1,4-addition polymerization plays an important role in the reaction. Effect of various facts on the reaction is studied, such as drier and emulsifier. The results show cobalt naphthenate is the best drier and the suitable amount of it is 0.1%. Surfactant mixture of dodecyl sodium sulfate and OP-10 is efficient. The suitable ratio is 1/2.2.Firstly, under certain reaction conditions, monoglyceride(abbreviated as TOMG) is prepared through the ester exchange reaction of tung oil and glycerol. Secondly, TOMG is esterifized with maleic anhydride, and monoglyceride bis-maleate half ester can be obtained. IR and 'H-NMR spectrums of the products are detected. And lastly, the oligomer of TOMG/MA is prepared through the polymerization. The oligomer has a super emulsify ability at the optimized reaction condition. Then a new soap-free emulsion copolymerization of styrene and TOMG/MA is carried out in the presence of...
