Utilizing the self-designed pump pressurizing water mists generating system, and referring to the relating experimental programs and evaluation methods in IMO and the experimental evaluation of fixed gas-extinguishing system in GA400-2002 and LPS 1230, the author builds a simulation experimental platform on the basis of current 5.3m(W)×8.1(L)×4.7(H) experimental chamber. The paper discusses the extinguishing effectiveness of water mists and seawater mists on four classes of standard fires, including wood fires of class A, cable fires of class A, oil pool fires of class B, and oil pool fires with obstacles. In addition, the paper explores the influence of nozzle types, spray pressure, and the horizontal distance between nozzles and the setting height of nozzles on extinguishing time. Based on my experiment, under the same experimental conditions, some qualitative indexes of seawater mists are much better than those of water mists, such as the extinguishing time, gas products generated by burning, the temperature of fire plume and smoke. At the same time, the paper elaborates the extinguishing mechanism of seawater mists. Based on the experiment, the paper demonstrates the feasibility of using seawater mists extinguishing system in cabins, which provides a scientific evaluation method on the extinguishing effectiveness of seawater mists.
