Pour-over process is used widely in the production of ductile iron in our country, because its simple equipment is operated conveniently. But this process still has some shortcomings, absorptivity of magnesium(Mg) is low and wastage of spheroidizer is a lot, spheroidized effect is instable, and the quantity of Mg light and soot is much, which pollutes environment seriously.So people append a ladle cover with a channel basin on the ladle with a dyke for nodulizing process, we call it tundish-cover nodulizing process. The seclusion of ladle cover makes nodulizing process in the comparatively anoxic atmosphere with some pressure, thus the shortcomings of pour-over process can be overcomed greatly. Of course, the tundish-cover nodulizing process also bring some new problems: reiterative loading and unloading of ladle cover make operation difficult and iron liquid quantity is difficult to control when taped iron liquid is continuous. People have been working hard to solve these problems.For solving the problems existing in the tundish-cover nodulizing process, we have designed the a new ladle cove, which can lift and drop freely and make worker operate conveniently. Besides we use heat-resistant electronic balance, which can solve the ration problem of iron liquid validly. On the base of this, by selecting rational chemical component, adopting cupola and electric cooker pair smelting craft and carrying on desulphurization, we can obtain low sulphur(S) liquid iron with steady temperature and component, and then go along nodulizing treatment with pour-over process and tundish-cover process respectively.The results show that tundish-cover nodulizing process can reduce oxidation and burning of Mg, stabilize and improve the absorptivity of Mg, reduce the used amount of spheroidizer, lower the S and rare earth(RE) content of treated iron liquid, which guarantee that the RE content is lower than the Mg amount in the treated iron liquid, stabilize and improve the spheroidized effect and the integrative performance of ductile iron greatly. When other crafts are all rational, the elongation of tensile sampleof equal strength is more than one time higher than national standard, and our cooperating manufactory can produce various kinds of high integrative performance ductile iron in batches steadily, for instance as-cast QT700-5, QT550-12, QT500-15, and has been developed as-cast QT600-10 successfully. Tundish-cover nodulizing process can reduce the smoke and dust effectively and the pollution of the atmosphere. It can also reduce the production cost of the ductile iron, and each ton casting can save the cost of 24 yuan if saved spheroidizer quantity is calculated only.
