In the paper, the recent progress in the study of the medical disinfectant was reviewed. The synthesis of 1,2-benzenedimethanol was researched form 1,2-bis-chloromethyl-benzol. It indicates that the yield of 1,2-benzenedimethanol is mainly controlled by the process of esterification. The reaction conditions had also been studied. The result of the experiments showed that the yield of 1,2-benzenedimethanol was about 96.6% under the following conditions: the molar ratio of 1,2-bis-chloromethyl-benzol to sodium acetate equal to 1:2.2, at the temperature of 100℃,the mass ratio of catalyst to 1,2-bis-chloromethyl-benzol is 8%.The processing parameter of 1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran from 1,2-bis-chloromethyl-benzol was researched also. The result of the experiments showed that the yield of 1,2-benzenedimethanol was about 95.2% under the following conditions: the molar ratio of sodium hydroxide to 1,2-bis-chloromethyl-benzol equal to 2.5:1, at the temperature of 80℃,the reaction time about 6h and the molarity ratio of catalyst to 1,2-bis-chloromethyl-benzol is 0.15%.The synthesis of o-phthalaldehyde was investigated from 1,2-benzenedimethanol in the solvent of acetic acid and water. The reaction conditions had also been studied The experiment results showed that the yield of o-phthalaldehyde was about 76.0% under the following conditions: the molar ratio of C8H10O2/HNO3 equal to 1:2.5, at the temperature of 80℃ and the reaction time about 0.5h. The synthesis of o-phthalaldehyde was also researched from 1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran in the solvent of acetic acid and water. The reaction conditions had been studied. When the molar ratio of C8H8O/HNO3 equal to 1:2.5, at the temperature of 80℃ and the reaction time about 0.5h.The yield of o-phthalaldehyde reached 78.0%. The prepared o-phthalaldehyde was analysised by IR, melting point and chemical analysis.
