In order to form a layer of deposited metal, a welding process-melting electrode automatic plasma arc welding is studied in the article. The pure copper, stainless steel and pure iron were welded in the experiments, the weld appearance is good. The tested welding quality shows that by the method of melting electrode automatic arc welding, in the combination of the base material and the melting metallic layer. There are no porosity, incomplete fusion, slag and other welding defects. The combination between pure copper and the base material is in high quality and without melting the base material. The layer with 10μm width is formed by the diffusion between the pure copper and the base material. The cut strength between pure copper and the base material is more than 125MPa; most base material is not melt, when the stainless steel is being welded. The cut strength between stainless steel and the base material is more than 475MPa; The high heat input of the pure iron make the structures of the base materials alter obviously thus melting area with 0.2mm width were observed. The crystals grow near the melting area. The melting area is much wider than those of stainless steel and pure copper. The cut strength between pure iron and base material is more than 170MPa.
