It is highly automatic that the cigarette production in our country, from chopping up tobacco leaf to the cigarette rolling , connecting and packing. But the cigarette packing quality examination is still a traditional artificial checking. The workload of the artificial checking is so great, and the checker's sight is apt to be tired, the attention of them also can't be long-term concentrated, then the leaving out in examination often occurs. The checker's technical ability, experience and naked eye resolving power also affect the examination result very much, accuracy and standardization are also very difficult to be realized, thus the quality of the product can't be guaranteed. It still can't be resolved effectively although some tobacco factories use so many checkers to examine.The packing quality of the cigarette carton reflects the technique and equipment level, and influences the image and the credit of tobacco enterprise. At the same time, the cigarette cartons with quality blemish will be returned to enterprise by the market feedback, which can also increase the cost of the product. Along with the technical development of computer software, hardware, and the perfection of machine vision theories, it is possible to use machine vision to check the packing quality of the cigarette carton. Machine vision has some inborn advantages on checking, such as high-speed, high resolving power, normative, repeatable and so on. It can lower the workload of checker consumedly, raise the quality of the product, reduce the cost of manpower and manage, and perfect the image of the tobacco enterprise by using the modern machine vision technique to check the packing quality of the cigarette carton.This text analyzed three methods of the packing quality examination of cigarette carton, which are touch sensor, color sensor and vision sensor which including smart camera and PC-Based. At last we set out from the machine vision with VC++6.0 as the software develop kit, put forward a kind of PC-Based machine vision examination method, and designed a packing quality of cigarette carton examination system. The system is made up of cigarette carton separating, image grabbing, image processing,and cigarette carton eliminating. The system can examine the packing quality of the cigarette carton, and get rid of them which have quality blemish on-line. This text elaborates the work principle, total structure and the flow of work of the system, treats the design and realization of image grabbing and processing detailedly, analyzes the application of illumination, lens, camera, frame grabber and image processing algorithm in the system.Through a series of experiments and tests, this system can examine the packing quality of the cigarette carton effectively, with its some characteristics—high examining speed, total effective examination, good stability.
