The Study, Based On County-level Areas Of The Ecological Footprint

Sustainability development is a popular attention matter, and which is a question on the subsistence and development of people.How to measure the ecological capacity, and to explore the way of regional sustainability development. Ecological footpring(EF)method which being popular recently is a new method to survey and calculated the level of human making use of the nature. The ecological footprint method was put forward by Dr.Rees,a Canadian famous eco-economist,and improved by his postgraduate,Wackernagel. Using a non currency format to analyzed whether the development of a region is within ecological carrying capacity. the pressure and the influence extent of human living activities to the nature also can be quantificationally reflected.Changshu city as the studying object of this paper,which computed its ecological footpring from 1998 to 2004,and annalyzed its dynamic change process of the ecological footprint and ecological capacity during this period. The result of calculation and analyzation indicated that the average personal ecological footprint gradually increased from 1.7020 hm2 to 2.7834 hm2 during 1998 to 2004, whereas, the average personal ecological capacity declined year by year from 0.45hm2 to 0.4106 hm2, Introduing three indexes: ecological footprint diversity parameter, ecological equilibrium parameter and ecological footprint per ten thousand gross domestic product parameter, enriched the cover range and the compare ability of this method. The result showed that the ecological equipoise of changshu city is declining year by year,but the eco-economical efficiency close to the developed country,but lower than Japan and Germany.and predicts the ecological footprint during 2005-2007 with a grey forcast model,the result indicated that the distance between the eco-footprint and the eco-capacity enlarged furthmore.The theory of Footprint has been aquantificational model of account for making decision-making of sustainability development, and inaugurated a new way of the study on sustainability development from the angle of antinomy between human and earth.
