Underground mineral exploitation is one of high dangerous industries in China.Frequent calamity not only make great economic loss but also endanger people's lifeand damage ecological environment. Equipment level and safety situation has beenimproved to a certain extent due to introduction of large size machines in manyunderground mines along with raise of mineral prices, but safety problem is notsolved completely. Moreover, machine trouble and personal injury caused by machineaccident happen sometimes because of low management level of large machines. Allof these unsafe factors restrict sustainable development of mines.Roof safty of emptied stope and management security of large machines areanalyzed and studied in detail, using such means as site measure, theoretical analysisand numerical simulation, aiming at the problem existing in the course of minaralexploitation in Xinqiao Mining Cooperation Ltd (shortly, XMC). Main reaseachingwork and conclusions are summarized as follows:1. Safety conditions of both roof and large machines are evaluated based on siteinvestigation for geology and mining technique as well as application of largemachines;2. Stress and strain of XMC's underground stopes with different structuralparameter and mining sequence are simulated utilizing the large-scale finite elementsoftware ANSYS, and optimal stope size and mining sequence are consequentlysuggested;3. Breakage mechanism and breakage type of surrounding rock are analyzed in theview of rock mechanics and main factors influencing stability of goaf are clarified.Analysis model of roof accidents were constructed, structural importance of basicincidents affecting safety of emptied stope is computed, the most probable factorcombination causing collapse of roof rock is determined, and necessary safetymeasures are suggested, accoding to results of fault tree analysis;4. Emergency preplan in roof accident is worked out, following the policy thatsafety is first and prevention is important. Accident can be orderly treated at thefastest speed and the greatest efficiency, and casualties and property loss can bereduced as to the greatest extent by implementing the emergency preplan, once roofaccident happens;5. Working paremeters of scraper and jumbo are tested in site and necessarymeasures improving their working efficiency are proposed. Number combination between scraper and jumbo is also optimized;6. The time when machine trouble may occur is predicted by gray theory, which ishelpful to maintenance ahead of time. Security management system of large machinesis also constructed. Pre-maintance and strict management system will make smoothoperation of machines possible.
