In this paper the homo-polymerization of industrial monomer dimethyldiallylammonium chloride(DMDAAC) initiated by 2,2'-azoisobutanamidine dihydrochloride (AIBA·2HC1) in aqueous solution was studied detailedly. The optimal processing to synthesize the poly-dimethyldiallylammonium chloride(PDMDAAC) with high intrinsic viscosity was found.An industrial monomer with proper reactivity was selected as a raw material in the research according to the reactivity of the monomers in polymerization initiated by ammonium persulphate(APS) in aqueous sulution on a known condition.Based on the method of stepwise increasing temperature in the process of polymerizing PDMDAAC initiated by APS which has been successfully studied in our research group, the optimal method of increasing temperature in the polymerization initiated by the AIBA.2HC1 was found. And based on this, the optimal amounts of monomer, initiator and chelating agent(NaaEDTA),etc.were investigated via the orthogonal experimental method,etc. The best processing condition was: m(DMDAAC)%=65.0%, m(AIBA.2HC1)%=0.07%(weight percent based on monomer weight), m(Na4EDTA)% =0.00355%(weight percent based on monomer weight), and the polymerization was carried out by heating in the water bath of 50℃,60℃,70℃each for 3 hours. And the highest value of intrinsic viscosity of the obtained product PDMDAAC was 3.45dL·g-1.On the basis of the best processing condition,the effects of each processing factors such as the amounts of monomer, initiator, chelating agent and maintaining temperature T3 on the product PDMDAAC's intrinsic viscosity were studied.The product PDMDAAC with the intrinsic viscosity of 3.45dL·g-1was characterized and analyzed by the means of FTIR,1H-NMR,13C-NMR and TG-DTA.
