Using acrylamide (AM) and industrial dimethyldiallylammonium chloride (DMDAAC) as raw material, the preparation techniques of poly DMDAAC-AM (PDA) powder with cationicity of 10% and 20% were researched in this paper.Based on present polymerization technology of our research group, using industrial DMDAAC containing impurities of controlled contents, PDA product of high intrinsic viscosity and anti cross-linking ability was prepared by adding chain transfer agent PAC and adjusting the polymerization technology. The intrinsic viscosity can reach 15.6 dL/g. Using single screw extruder, colloid particals of suitable size and high dispersity were obtained by adding dispersing agent in granulation. Utilizing the optimized additive formula and drying conditions concluded in research process, PDA powder with 11.3 dL/g of intrinsic viscosity and 5 hours of dissolving time and with 11.7 dL/g of intrinsic viscosity and 6 hours of dissolving time were obtained.The preparation of PDA powder with cationicity of 20% was then studied on the base of the PDA powder with cationicity of 10%. Improved preparation technology of PDA powder with cationicity of 20% was obtained by investigating the synthesis technology and additive formula. Powder product with 6.9 dL/g of intrinsic viscosity and 1.5 hours of dissolving time was prepared.In conclusion, these studies provided a basis for further improvement in the preparation of PDA powder and industrial production.
