This paper is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (No.50379024) and by Shanghai pivotal study development foundation in china (T0601). This project provides the effective method for researching the device in recovering spilled oil. And we have applied for the patent on the structure of artificial jellyfish with the name "Recovery device of spilled oil on water surface", which applying code is 200610118209.3.It is one of the cosmopolitan and difficult problems to control and recovery the spilled oil on the sea. Presently, the problem of spilled oil recovery on the sea has not solved very well allover the world under the hard conditions on the sea. In this project, we have introduced the theory of biomimetic mechanics into the design for the first times, and designed the spilled oil recovery device - the artificial-jellyfish device by imitating natural jellyfish. In addition, we have paid the most attention on the study of the character analysis and experiment of the artificial-jellyfish testing device model. The main contents of the dissertation are in the following context:(1) In this paper, based on the existed artificial-jellyfish structure model, we have made some optimize to the structure, and worked out the physical model of the artificial-jellyfish device under the lab condition.(2) Through the study to the vortex theory, especially the mathematical model of Burgers vortex, we have got some factors, which affect the oil indraft performance of the device qualitatively. The main factors are principal axis rotation speed, structure dimension of whisk impeller and drainage impeller, installed positions of whisk impeller and characters of spilled oil.(3) According to the analysis of impact factors, from simple to complexity, we have done the experiment study to the artificial-jellyfish device by three steps. The three steps are feasibility experiment, match experiment of the main effect factors and experiment of oil indraft performance. During the experiments, for the complexity of flow field inside the shell, we had encountered with many difficult problems. The problems just like interfere of flow fields, the match between the flux of input and output and the match between the principal axis rotation speed and fix placement of impellers, etc. By resolving the problems above, then the experiment of oil indraft performance has been done more easily.(4) We have paid the most attention on the experiment study of oil indraft performance. We have study the connection between the principal axis rotation speed and recovery efficiency of the device by the experiments under four given work conditions. Meanwhile, we have analyzed the experiment results.(5) Based on the experiment results, we have given the improvement ways to the structure of artificial jellyfish device.
