The ball-nose end milling cutter is one kind of highly efficient cutting tool. It is used for machining complex surface on NC machine, especially in the fields of die manufacturing and motorcar manufacturing. With the popularization of CNC machine tools in China the ball-cutter demand is increasing. In order to reduce the cost of grinding, our university develops a four-axis linkage NC grinding equipment, and puts forward a new rake face grinding mathematical model.In the paper, the analysis and research about design, modeling and machining of the ball-nose end milling cutter is reviewed. First, the traditional cutting-edge models with constant helix angle of ball-end cutters are analyzed and the befitting normal helix models are proposed, and the models are analyzed and simulated. The cutting geometry angel parameters are solved and analyzed. Then, the rake face and a master such as the flank angle after the ball-milling Knife mathematical model.The research would offer sufficient academic basics and direction about manufacturing of the ball-nose end milling cutter on the existing NC grinder, it would be ready for virtual manufacture of the ball-nose end milling cutter.Based on the analysis of grinding motion, a set of NC grinding Platform for machining the ball-nose end milling cutter is designed and manufactured, its motion control system is PMAC (Programmable Multi-Axis Controller).The device is connected onto the tool grinder MYA6025. The motion control program for the grinding of the ball-nose milling cutter is compiled, and the rake of the ball-nose milling cutter with S cutting edge is ground.
