With the development of science and technology, engineering structural reliability theory is the trend of engineering structural safety design and the recommended design method of International Standardization Association (ISA). So the research on the reliability of shaft lining has important signification on theoretical value and practical significance.This article introduces the status-quo of reliability theory at home and abroad and the characteristic of the research of geotechnical engineering reliability, and illuminates the necessity of design shaft lining in reliability method. It discourses upon the basic theory and common number methods about reliability theory, and summarizes their advantages and disadvantages. Based on the load on the sidewall in different stages and structural reliability, it defines the basic concepts of shaft lining reliability, raises the basic clue of thoughts about reliability design of shaft lining, establishes the limit condition equations of shaft lining, and designs and calculates the thickness of shaft lining by center point method and checking point method. It applies genetic algorithms to shaft lining for reliability analysis, and raises the analysis model and steps of genetic algorithms according to practical situation of shaft lining, then makes reliability analysis by examples, and gains the relation of reliability index and parameter variability of shaft lining.This article introduces the theory of reliability and genetic algorithms into the research of shaft lining design, and establishes the reliability theory of shaft lining, which makes reliability design and reliability analysis on thickness of shaft lining. It provides basis for further research on the reliability theory of shaft lining design.
