Cyanate Ester Resin Composites

The cyanate(CE) has copolymerized with Ortho-diallyl Bisphenol A(DBA), Epoxy Resin(EP) respectively,then the CE-DBA/Octaphenyl Silsesquioxane(OPS) has been prepared by the solution blending method.The three systems are studied by non-isothermal DSC method at different scanning rates.The apparent activation energies(E_a) and reaction order(n) of the cure systems are obtained by Kissinger equation and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method.The result shows that the DBA can significantly reduce E_a of CE system and EP has a little impact on lowing the cure temperature of CE.The introduction of OPS can lower gel temperature,curing temperature and post processing temperature significantly,compared with DBA/CE system.Curing process of CE-DBA/Bismaleimide(BMI),CE-EP/BMI and CE-DBA/ BMI/Octa Nitrophenyl Silsesquioxane(ONPS) composites have been also measured by non-isothermal DSC at different scanning rates.It is shown that DBA can facilitate the curing of BMI/CE,and the use of EP can lower the temperature of the curing process as well as its apparent activation energies(E_a) significantly.Through the comparison of relevant date,ONPS can optimize the curing process in the CE-DBA/BMI system.The composites of DBA/CE,EP/CE,CE-DBA/OPS and CE-EP/ONPS have been prepared by solution blending method.These composites have been characterized by various instruments.The result indicates that DBA can promote the curing of CE,but excessive DBA may have a negative impact on the curing of CE and the resultant sample.Thus,the mass ratio 1:19 between DBA and CE is choosed.EP have a good compatibility with CE,and it can modify the composites' toughness very well.In the CE-DBA/OPS system,OPS can't be well-dispersed unless less than 5%(wt) OPS is employed.Furthermore,this system has a good thermal stability. EP/CE has a good compatibility with ONPS.The SEM images demonstrate ONPS can greatly improve the mechanical properties of materials,and it can modify composite's toughness very well.
