In this paper, basic researches about cyanate ester resin matrix based on the background of the space optical structure were carried out, cyanate ester system suitable for space optical structure were obtained by screening and optimizing different commercially available cyanate ester resin systems. In addition, the processing property of resin system were studied, and gained carbon fiber/cyanate ester composites with good mechanical property using a hot melt prepregging method, laying a solid foundation on the application of cyanate ester to space optical structure.Considering the space optical structure has higher requirement for the dimensional stability and the humid warm resistance of resin matrix. The related performance of three different cyanate ester were analyzed, the results show that three resins have high curing temperatures and their curing peak temperatures are all above 250?, and the resins have large residual thermal stress, so the catalysts should be used to reduce the curing temperatures. The weight loss temperatures of three resins are all above 460?, the moisture absorption of CY-5W is the biggest, and the value is only 1.6%, the three resins all satisfy the demands for the dimensional stability and the humid warm resistance. The processing properties of the three resins differ greatly, and they can be adapted to the different molding processes, and the CY-10 W can be used for presoak molding method.In order to apply the selected CY-10 W to the space optical structure, different types and contents of catalysts were chosen to analyze the curing processing properties of cyanate ester, and the effect of the different contents of epoxy on mechanical properties, heat resistance and humid warm resistance of cyanate ester were also studied. The results show that different kinds of catalysts have different effects on the curing temperature of the cyanate ester, and stannous caprylate has the best catalystic efficiency for reducing the initial curing temperature from 192.6? to 102.2?, and the resin has the better processing properties when the content of catalyst is 0.1%, the system of epoxy/cyanate ester resin has the best mechanical properties when the the content of epoxy is between 20% and 30%. Epoxy has an adverse impact on the heat resistance and humid warm resistance of cyanate ester.The processing properties of the selected cyanate ester resin were investigated, and determined the suitable impregnating temperature, the cyanate ester resin/carbon fiber HS40 prepreg and composites were prepared successfully using a hot melt prepregging method, and the properties of the prepreg, the mechanical properties and the humid warm resistance of composites were studied, It shows that the cyanate ester resin/carbon fiber prepreg using a hot melt prepregging method has good properties, and gel content is relatively stable, and the value is between 38% and 40%, the cyanate ester resin/carbon fiber HS40 laminated plate has excellent mechanical properties, and the longitudinal tensile strength and modulus are 2244.5MPa and 248.0GPa, respectively, at the same time, the laminated plate has good humid warm resistance, and the value of the mechanical properties can remain about 70% in boiling water for 100 h.
