Water-gel explosive has many advantages, such as, excellent anti-water, safe, non-toxic, and little smoke. However, water-gel explosive is the system of hydrogel and ammonium nitrate is supersaturated solution in water. With the temperature reduced, the solubility of ammonium nitrate is dramatically declined and ammonium nitrate will have substantial grain precipitation which is always acicular and cylindrical in water-gel explosive. Water-gel explosive cannot detonate, because the interlocking precipitation of ammonium nitrate cumbers its relative movement and reduces its flow and sensitivity.This paper has mainly researched on how to enhance the antifreeze of low-cost water-gel explosive in low temperature. Through many tests, adding formamide of antifreeze agent and dodecylamine of surfactant in water-gel explosive is best. Then, according to the water-gel explosive formula design principles, the ultimate formula of antifreeze low-cost rock water-gel explosive has been reached. It has good sensitivity at -15℃, detonation velocity and distance explosion reached respectively 3937m/s and 5cm.Finally, formamide and dodecylamine are applied to coal mine water-gel explosive. The results showed that the properties of coal mine water-gel explosive have been greatly improved at low temperature. Accordingly, formamide and dodecylamine have some applicability in other types of water-gel explosive.
