The nature and exploitation condition of the mine is very complicated and various. So there may have many kinds of disaster in mine which increase insecurity of exploitation and bring great accidents more easily. In the monitoring area there exist a large number of monitoring nodes which need to work very long time. With the consideration of defects in traditional environment monitoring system for example, it can only monitor one parameter, is inflexible wired transportation network limiting monitoring scope. Costs are very high in order to maintain the existence of the network. And the intelligent level is low. Even though all regions of the mine are monitored, there also exist many blind areas, which are often hidden dangers of the accidents. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) system is proposed in the paper, which applies to mine environment parameter monitoring and is based ZigBee protocol. In response to this situation, this paper researches and designs mine environmental parameters monitoring system based on ZigBee wireless sensor networks, which has an important significance and application value. This thesis analyzed the architecture and characteristics of WSN at first, and then analyzed the current wireless communication protocols. It is pointed out that ZigBee wireless communications technology is a typical WSN protocol that has a lot of unique such as close range, low-complexity, low power, low data rate, low-cost. This paper introduces the monitoring system of three parts: overall design, hardware design and software design. Firstly, viewed the current metal mining environmental protection and on-line monitoring of the urgent need, the paper proposesd the system design program, which using Wireless Sensor Networks to monitor the environment of the mine, and designed the entire structure of the system. Secondly, based on the energy consumption of sensor node and the characteristics of wireless transmission, the Atmega128L single-chip microcomputer and CC2420 wireless transceiver has been selected. Four models have been made out, which are processing model, wireless communication model, sensor model and power model. All these models could be flexibly configured. Thirdly, according to ZigBee standard, software dsign of WSN node has been brought out to consider both hardware and software, including the CC2420 radio communication procedures and temperature and humidity data collection procedures and the ZigBee protocol implementation. Finally, this thesis summarized the preceding work, has looked forward to the development in the future.
