The tailings reservoir is a necessary part of the normal protection of mining production, andit is also a major dangerous source for mining enterprises. For a long time, the safety monitoringmode of the tailings reservoir is in a lower level,and the tailings reservoir accidents trend is rising.There are problems like not enough timely monitoring and larger man-made monitoring errors inthe manual monitoring section. The traditional means is the use of cable monitoring cable layingon the dam, but there are still some problems, such as complexity of laying, inconvenience ofmaintenance, expansion and adjustment to the detection point, etc. In response to this situation,this paper was combined with the research of the National Natural Science Foundation Projectnamed Wireless sensor networks and its application in real-time monitoring of the tungsten oreenvironment (50764005), this paper proposed that the wireless sensor network should be appliedto the tailing dam safety monitoring system, and the system overall scheme, the sensor nodesoftware and hardware systems were also designed in this paper.Firstly, this paper analyzed the architecture and characteristics of the wireless sensor network,and then analyzed and compared the existing wireless communication protocol and points outthat ZigBee bidirectional wireless communication technology with features of low distance, lowcomplexity, low power consumption, low data rate and cost is suitable to the wireless sensornetwork for monitoring the safety of tailings reservoir. It mainly approached the subjects fromoverall design, hardware design, software design and simulation experiment of tailings reservoirdam monitoring system based on ZigBee wireless sensor network.(1) Aiming at the urgent needs of safety on-line monitoring system for tailings reservoir, thedesign scheme and overall structure of on-line monitoring system for tailings reservoir usingwireless sensor network were proposed.(2)The hardware design of the wireless sensor node is presented around the whole systemstructure. Considering the characteristics of node energy consumption and wireless datatransmission, this paper selected the low-power AVR microcontroller Atmega128L and wirelessradio frequency based on the ZigBee technology as the core component to build up the sensornodes. The processor module, wireless communication module, sensor module and power supplymodule were designed with a flexible configuration of hardware and interfaces according to theactual application.(3) On the basis of ZigBee communication protocol and the low-power requirements of bothhardware and software, the software design for wireless sensor network node was presented, andthis included the CC2420wireless communication programs, the seepage pressure dataacquisition programs and the realization of ZigBee protocol.(4) Aiming at the problems of overmuch and faster sensor node energy consumption due to the large amount of data transfer of traditional ZigBee network tree routing algorithm, animproved ZigBee network tree routing algorithm based on energy-aware and energy-balancedwere proposed.The tree routing algorithm based on the energy-aware&energy balance of thenode and the traditional algorithm were both simulated in the betwork simulation software-NS2environment. The simulation results show that the improved algorithm can effectively reduce theoverall energy consumption of the network node energy balance, maximize network lifetime.In summary, the paper combines the advantages of wireless sensor networks which is acombination of theoretical studies, system design and simulation analysis, a more in-depth studyof the tailings reservoir safety monitoring wireless sensor network system were raised whichprovide a simple and effective method for the tailings reservoir monitoring, and these also meansa useful explore and try to the development and application of wireless sensor networktechnology...
