With the rapid development of industrialization, residential environment quality decreases continuously, as well as the increasing deterioration of water environment. So the water quality monitoring has been paid much more attention in recent years. In order to make up for the deficiency of traditional water environment monitoring, this paper proposes an improved water environment monitoring based on ZigBee wireless sensor networks technology, which combines many advantages of ZigBee(such as low complexity, low energy consumption and low cost).Firstly, this paper introduces the ZigBee technology of wireless sensor networks. Then, it gives the whole design of the system framework according to the application demand of water environment monitoring system. Moreover, it presents schematic diagram and hardware acquisition node parameters of water quality based on CC2530 chip, as well as software design diagram and implementation process diagram. In addition, aiming at the particularity and significance of water environment location, this paper puts forward a new localization algorithm, namely modified genetic algorithm jointly using GPS and wireless sensors. This algorithm based on node location of anchor nodes through the three side positioning method is used to get the position of the unknown node elimination mechanism, the introduction of genetic algorithm to the survival of the fittest further calculates the position of the unknown nodes, so as to obtain the position information of nodes in the system. Finally, the transfer of water quality parameters are collected to the sink node through the gateway to the PC machine and wireless mobile terminal.The testing results in the paper demonstrate that the ZigBee wireless module communication within a 10 meters distance performs well on the data acquisition and transmission. Meanwhile, the node localization gets minimum error at the distance of 40 meter The water environmental monitoring presented in this paper has advantages of strong real-time, small error, low cost and high reliability. As a new technology, water environment monitoring based on ZigBee wireless sensor networks certainly will have certain market promotion value and broad application prospects.
