A review of chiral membrane was given.By coating 20% loading of cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) on silanized silica gel, the chiral stationary phase (CSP) was prepared and the empty column of HPLC was packed. With hexane-isopropanol as mobile phase, the enantioseparation of twenty racemates on the column was studied.Using the CAB as membrane material, the optical resolution CAB membranes were fabricated. The flux and permselectivity of membranes using aqueous solution of (R, S)-2-phenyl-l-propanol or (R, S)-hydrobenzoin as feed solution were studied. The structure of the solid membranes was observed by scanning electron microscopy. When the membrane was prepared with 15 wt.% cellulose acetate butyrate and 20 wt.% DMF in the casting solution, and the operating pressure and feed concentration of racemate were 2 kgf/cm2 and 15mmol/L, respectively, over 98% of enantiomeric excess (e.e.) for (R, S)-2-phenyl-1-propanol and 50% e.e. for (R, S)-hydrobenzoin were obtained. The membrane was also prepared for isomers resolution of a,β-ionone. Effects of CAB concentration, DMF content, operating pressure on the properties of CAB membrane were discussed. The experimental results showed that the CAB membranes possessed good selectivity for separation of a,β-ionone.Dye waste water is one of the important environmental pollutants. The CAB membranes were used in separation of mixtures of Sunset yellow and Reactive black B and reached above 96% retention rate to the Reactive black B. It is possible that the polymer membrane is used in some dye wastewater processing.
