A Reducing Pressure Drop stick swirl plate mist eliminator is raised by comparing the characteristics of traditional demisters. In this paper, the characteristics of the precipitator and the dynamic characteristics of droplet particles in the gas medium was analyzed. Combined with practical laboratory conditions, a swirl plate test platform was established, based upon commercially available Commercial Fluid Dynamics software FLUENT, then a swirling three-dimensional model of plate mist eliminator was generated, and the Reynolds stress turbulence model, DPM discrete phase model and then track model was used.Through numerical simulation, we get rich information of its internal flow. According to the simulation result analysis shows that a Reducing Pressure Drop stick can effectively expand the scope of the regional high-speed, lower velocity gradient and the peak; combining the numerical results, we conclude that there exist two factors of the reduction by the Reducing Pressure Drop stick, One is the behavior of decreasing swirl by the Reducing Pressure Drop stick, which changes the swirl kinetic energy into pressure energy and axial energy, the other is the action of weakening turbulent intensity by the Reducing Pressure Drop stick, which reduces the energy dissipation of the cyclone flows.The results of experimental and simulation in various factors effect on the plate demister cyclone pressure drop and defogging efficiency, we can conclude that: the numerical simulation results and experimental results in the precipitator operating conditions is coincident, it illustrate the application of CFD software to simulate the mist eliminator is accurate; reducing pressure drop stick in rotating-stream tray separator helps to reduce pressure drop without reducing the efficiency of separation, and the drag reduction ratio is related to reducing pressure drop stick’s axial length, radial position and rotating-stream tray separator’s space velocity, reducing pressure drop stick has little effect on the efficiency of separation within experimental range.The research carried out in this work provided an effective method for the simulation and experiment of two phase field in rotating-stream tray separator. The results are helpful to the structural optimization and large-scale designing. Also, the work can provide constructive guide for the design of flue gas desulphurization equipment.
