The comparing analysis on uniaxial, biaxial and triaxial seismic response of base-isolated structures with friction pendulum system is carried out, and the variation of the seismic response is studied. Some conclusions of significance can be drawn as follows:1. Under the seismic intensity of frequently occurred earthquake, the biaxial and triaxial earthquake excitations have little effect on the seismic response of the structure; however, under the seismic fortification intensity and the seismic internsity of infrequently occurred earthquake, the biaxial and triaxial earthquake excitations have some effect on the seismic response of the structure.2. It is found that when the bilateral horizontal ground motions is considered the isolator displacements will increase, the accelerations and the inter-story shear will decrease. When the vertical ground excitation is considered the isolator displacements will slightly decrease, the accelerations and the inter-story shear will increase.3. As the friction coefficient of the FPS increasing, the total input energy of the structure will increase, however, the ratio of energy dissipation of base-isolation system will decrease and the ratio of energy dissipation of the damping in the superstructure will increase. When the bilateral horizontal ground motions are considered, the ratio of energy dissipation of base-isolation system will increase and the ratio of energy dissipation of the damping in the superstructure will decrease. When the vertical ground excitation is considered, the ratio of energy dissipation of base-isolation system will decrease and the ratio of energy dissipation of the damping in the superstructure will increase.
