Driver's sight distance is not only one of the important indicators to analyze and evaluate highway design and operate quality, but also an important factor in ensuring road safety. Sight distance is the quantification of human visual sight of the road alignment and the environment, which reflects the geometric characteristics of the road itself. There is very important significance for road design and driving safety evaluation to research the relationship of driving sight distance and road alignment. In the paper, driver's dynamic visual characteristics which influence sight distance is analyzed first for the shortage of sight distance calculation models, and on this basis, a calculation method of sight distance by three-dimensional image technology based on dynamic vision characteristics is proposed. In the three-dimensional scene, road models of different alignments are built, and sight distance of each lane is calculated. Then the influence of the radius of horizon curve, curve length, radius of vertical curve, and the dispersion of gradients on sight distance is researched respectively. The change of the sight distance on the typical road of combination of horizontal and vertical is analyzed, and the reasons result in the insufficient of sight distance is discussed. In addition, based on the drawing of the sight distance in different driveway, the impact of driveway position on spatial sight distance is analyzed. Finally, the spatial sight distance of a real highway which is chose for the reach sample is calculated in three-dimensional virtual scene, and is compared with horizon alignment, vertical alignment, design sight distance, and stopping sight distance, in order to find sections of the highway which are lack of sight distance, and the reason for it. The analysis result can lay a foundation for sight distance and driving safety evaluation study.
