Zhang Crossing Town Building Space Morphology

This thesis focuses on the traditional building which locate on Zhangdu Town, Jing County, South area of Anhui Province. Though comprehanded analysis, the author researched on the formation and development, space and structure, form and characteristic of local traditional houses, revealing the relationship and interaction between architectural space and natural environment, cultural history, social custom. In order to study the particular characteristic and growth process of the local building in Zhangdu Town, this thesis goes under the frame of Chinese traditional architecture theory, carries on the practical investigation on the traditional building, analysising in detail on the local dwell. Catching the different main direct elements of different period in the old building in the old town, trying to research its origin and characteristics of space, approve the value of history, culture, and tourism, then find out the future of the building in the old town. Researching the way and the strategy of protecting the old building is a valuable and substantial project, so this article also offers a comparative integrated theory for the developing and protection.This article adapts the way of systematic theory to start the research of traditional building, the points are in the following two: one is the research about architecture space, mainly studying the local culture, economy and folk customs; the other is about architecture form, mainly related to the structure of the old building in Zhangdu Town, architectural material, and ornament elements. Both the two facts above can reflect the statue of human being inside, so this article is about the detail of the residence. In the research, the author adapted the architecture phenomenology and building typology, trying to focus on the substence of object, instead of the simple statistics and presentation.
