| The traditional commercial market town is a type of settlement that was bred along with the development of the commodity economy in traditional societies and played a role in bridging economic ties within the region. The development of cross-regional trade and handicrafts in Shanxi during the Ming and Qing dynasties contributed to the rise and prosperity of a large number of market towns,of which the ancient town of Yincheng,a distribution center for iron goods in northern China,is a typical representative. This paper takes the ancient town of Yincheng in Changzhi City as the object of study, and aims to explore the spatial structure evolution of the settlement and the development of commercial architecture under the influence of economic activities from the perspective of commerce, which promoted the development of the settlement.Based on historical analysis and fieldwork, first, this paper explains the background of the commercial development of Yincheng Town during the Ming and Qing dynasties, focusing on the influence of the cross-regional commercial traffic network and its own central function on the spatial pattern of its settlements;it analyzes the phenomenon of the gradual southward shift of the core commercial area of the town after the strengthening of political and commercial functions during the "Red Flag Commune" period, thus revealing the specific aspects of the spatial pattern of Yincheng ancient town influenced by commercial traffic, and further discusses the key role of economic activities on the development of the ancient town.Second, commerce is the main function of traditional commercial towns, and commercial buildings are also the main spatial carriers of commercial activities. This paper studies the three types of representative commercial buildings corresponding to the three main forms of trade in shade towns: warehouses, inns and coach hotels and handicraft workshops, mainly from the relationship between commercial activities and space, focusing on their site selection characteristics, spatial layout characteristics and single building characteristics, and further discussing the influence of capital in architecture. Finally, based on the deed information and mapping drawings,we mainly analyze the different degrees of changes in the building space as a capital existence under the influence of social demand, change of property rights and functional changes, which involve the changes in both the layout of courtyard groups and the single building space. This paper reveals the inner logic of the spatial pattern development evolution of market towns and the spatial organization of traditional commercial buildings driven by socio-economic activities, with a view to supporting the research and conservation and utilization of traditional commercial settlements in the region. There are 179 pictures,4 tables and 125 references in this paper. |
