Energy-saving of excavator is an urgent and of higher development potential project. Carrying on excavator's research and analysis in virtual environment by using simulation method, is a new technology which emerged in recent years. Under this background, the paper took a negative flow control hydraulic excavator as an object to research, established its co-simulation model of mechanical-hydraulic system, and then obtained the system energy consumption, discussed energy-saving optimization based on this studies.The main research work as follows:The significance of the research of energy conservation on hydraulic excavator was surveyed. The development status of excavator hydraulic system, hydraulic simulation technology and the research status of energy consumption of excavator hydraulic system in domestic and foreign was related. The basic principle and characteristics of the excavator negative flow control system was analysised.The way of the hydraulic system energy loss was discussed.The dynamic model of its working device was built with ADAMS,based on the research of multibody dynamic theory.The mathematical model of negative flow control hydraulic system was built with AMEsim,based on the research of the principle of hydraulic system and hydraulic components. The paper also described the principle and the use of co-simulation by ADAMS and AMESim. Through the connecting of dynamic model with the hydraulic system model by co-simulation module, the co-simulation model obtained.We got the dynamic response of hydraulic system and mechanism according to specific operations by done the co-simulation. Then by comparing the simulation results with experimental results, the accuracy of the model was verified. And then by doing the simulation of typical operating condition circle with no load of hydraulic excavator, the dynamic response and energy consumption were obtained.Then we gained the energy consumption distribution chart by the research of each part of energy loss. The results indicated that the mainly energy loss came from throttle.The paper carried on contrast of simple throttle hydraulic system and negative flow control hydraulic system in virtual environment, the energy conservation effect of negative flow control hydraulic system was quantificated.
