The bucket wheel reclaimer and stacker is the common continuous bulk materials handling machine in the world. Because it's a kind of continuous running machine with a high efficiency, it is greatly valued by the countries of the world. Now, it's used widely in large opencast mine, storage space, power station, gasworks, large dock of domains such as mines, metallurgy, electricity, transport, building material, chemical engineering and so on. The boom-type bucket wheel stacker reclaimer is made up by bucket wheel, boom, superstructure, counter, slewing mechanism, portal, traveling mechanism, tripper and so on. Because the bucket wheel reclaimer and stacker is voluminous and heaviest, portal in the bottom of it, loading all the weight of superstructure, which is very important to the machine safe operation, so it's not excessively to say the portal life decide the complete appliance life in certain aspect.Investigated subject of this article is the portal of DQL1200/1200.35 bucket wheel stacker reclaimer, by finite element analysis software ANSYS and Workbench, to conduct investigation & analysis of statics, transient dynamics and endurance life for portal steel structure. Spurning traditional design method, aiming to complex stress situation, combining the structure feature of portal, calculating and accessing proper work condition, finite element statics analysis is finally carried out, based on analysis result we can resolve the issue that stress concentration often exceeds permissible stress. According to loading characteristic of portal, 72 set circulate order code were compiled by APDL language, dynamic loading state was simulated, which are all providing very important base for following endurance life analysis, meantime the change status of local stress & bit shift following time was also understood. They are all ensuring the dependability of portal in the whole period of motion. fatigue breakdown is the main failure modality for portal, due to the complex of loading spectrum calculation and unknown of S-N curve, endurance life analysis is always neglect, but this article is based on S-N curve, with any other effected factor, so the part S-N curve is corrected with the loading time process of transient dynamics analysis, and the endurance life distribution is figured out, which ensure portal's security and credibility. At last, stress test was carried out for portal, via contrasting the test result with finite element analysis, the legitimacy of finite element analysis is finally verified and found satisfaction.
