The bucket wheel reclaimer and stacker is the common continuous bulk materials handling machine in the world. Because it's a kind of continuous running machine with a high efficiency, it is greatly valued by the countries of the world. Now, it's used widely in large opencast mine, storage space, power station, gasworks, large dock of domains such as mines, metallurgy, electricity, transport, building material, chemical engineering and so on. The boom-type bucket wheel stacker reclaimer, which is made up by bucket wheel, boom, superstructure, counter, slewing mechanism, portal, traveling mechanism, tripper and so on, is the most common kind to be used for its flexible operation, widely working rage and low request. The bucket wheel mechanism is the main function unit for reclaiming, which locates at the end of the boom,whose weight affect the weight and balance of the whole machine directly, so its light weight design is of great meaning to the light weight design of the whole machine. The purpose of the text is to get a optimized wheel.The text makes a topology optimization of the wheel of bucket wheel stacker reclaimer with ESO on the platform of ansys, in which the strain energy density is used as the criterion of element deletion and a checkerboard pattern control method is used, getting a best material distribution model of the bucket wheel. And then modify the topology result, get a optimization model-arc arm wheel, meanwhile considering the manufacture and referring to previous design experience, get another optimization model straight arm wheel, use a dimension optimization method (subproblem method,sweep method and one-order method) to get the best dimension of the two model, the straight arm wheel model is consider as the final result of the optimization. At last, a statics analysis, transient analysis and the reliability analysis is applied to the modified bucket wheel to prove the capability of the optimization result.At last, a stress test is applied to the bucker wheel, the result of test is contrast with the result of analysis, which represent the analysis is correct. The optimization result is used in the production, the weight of which is great less than the weight of the machine of the same reclamer capability, the stable running state of the bucket wheel mechanism represent the method is of validity.
