Digital substation is a new generation substation's technology trend. As an important part of substation automation system, the relay protection in digital substation is affected by electronic transformers, computer network communication technology and IEC61850 standards. Now digital protection is used and promoted as a new feature of digital substation. It forces the relay testing become digital and based on IEC61850 communication system. Nevertheless there is lack of research on digital relay test technology or related device, and the few research results are not comprehensive and thorough. In view of these situations, the key technologies of digital relay testing device based on IEC61850 are researched in this thesis. According to the new features of digital relay and the testing circumstance in engineering projection, key technologies of the new test equipment include the 61850 communication function, transient calculation and automatic relay test. These points are proposed and researched respectively in different chapter. Also the implementation scheme and verification are given subsequently.The most important and fundamental part in digital relay testing device—communicational function is analyzed firstly in this thesis. The communicational theories of SV and GOOSE are defined well in 61850. But the actual fact that relay testing doesn't have model brings some communicational difficulties. After detailed analysis, the solution to these problems and the corrective verification of communicational program are given subsequently. On the basis of analysis, a new working mode of relay test device is proposed:PC pre-processing the sent message reduces the workload of lower machine and simplifies the process.The digital protection test needs improving transient calculation's accuracy to meet digital relay's future needs. Two part of relay protection test's accurate calculation is analyzed respectively. A few flaws about power system fault simulation in traditional relay testing are indicated with their improvement, and the measuring theories, transfer functions, transient features of 4 kinds of common electronic transformers are well researched. All these work laid a theoretical foundation for test device's computing.At last the thinking of fully automatic relay testing is posed and researched. All information and operation needed in the fully automatic relay testing process are summarized. Then 61850 communicational processes involved are introduced briefly. Finally the thinking of fully automatic relay testing is proved feasible by the result of test operated on 61850 communication simulation system.
