The rising of rapid transit on tieeway is changing the pattern of overland traffic in our country. While the frequent accidents have badly touched the confidence of people using them since the freeways were devoted to using, especially the rear-end collision accident, which is the most representational accident form. Based on this premise, a suit of Rear- end Collision Warning System is studied and taped in this paper. Based on the theoretically analyzing of the braking process, the applied counting model of the safe following distance between two cars on freeways is established. The design blue print of the system is presented based on such model. Using laser radar to measure the distance of own car to frontal car, collecting the information of driving circumstance through several sensors, and analyzing and judging all of such information using a Single Chip Microcomputer of 8 bit MCS-5 1 series which is the control center of the system. When the following distance is less than the safe following distance, and there is a hidden trouble of rear-end collision accident, an alarm is raised to the driver. The application circuit diagram of the information collecting unit, the alarm signal outputting unit and other equipment are designed, the corresponding programs are also compiled using MCS-5 1 assemble language in this paper. The research production of this paper has presented an effective solving approach for decreasing the occurring of rear-end collision accidents on freewayR the upper research of such task.
