Of Traditional Chinese Architectural Form Along The Water

Dwelling is the reaction and comprehension of people to the environment andtheir Beingnhe world. So the form of building is more than the shell ofshelter, it is also a place container which hold people' daily lives. Thehuman's dwelling is closely related to water. Chinese traditional waterfrontbuilding, the organic component of Chinese culture and the nature region,processes unique charm in the architecture field, wftich is based on the waterfrontenvironment's particular structure and characteristics. This paper assifies andanalysis the waterfront building's form in two respects, individual building andsettlement. The study involves many components of th~ form. And on the basis ofthe study, the author tries to reveal the feature of Chinese traditional waterfrontbuilding, which will be helpful to comprehension to the relationship between manand environment, and also to nowadays waterfront building practice in China.
