The complicated compositions and properties of concrete, a kind of brittle material, have an important influence on its sawing process, and consequently on the sawing efficiency of diamond blade. So the project that many factories care for is how to improve the performance of a saw blade and prolong its life. The research on the sawing process of concrete has been less published at present.Concrete sawing mechanism, sawing force, and blade wear have been studied systematically in this paper. Finally a new type of diamond blade structure for dry-cutting concrete was designed after optimizing with finite element analysis.1. The topographies of cutting grooves and cutting chips were observed by means of scanning electronic microscope, and sawing mechanism of concrete was analyzed, based on the properties and fracture mechanics of concrete.2. The signals of sawing force with different cutting parameters were acquired by a piezoelectric force dynamometer in the process of sawing concrete, and the characteristics of the sawing force signals and the influence factors were analyzed.3. The diamond segment wear process was analyzed by testing the weight of segment before and after sawing. The patterns of wear and breakage of diamond grits and bond wear mechanism of the blade were analyzed based on the observation on the working surface of the saw blade by stereo microscope and scanning electronic microscope.4. Based on the experimental investigation on the sawing force of concrete, the deflection and stress distribution of saw blade were investigated with finite element analysis, and a new type of diamond blade structure for dry cutting concrete was designed.
