With the fast-developing aeronautical technology and fast-changing world political environment, the super-powers have posed more critical requirements to military aircrafts. These requirements include expanded flight envelop, higher agility and reliability. In order to meet these requirements, the aeronautical propulsion system has to provide more powerful and sustainable force. This also poses new requirements for propulsion control system. As a result, integrated propulsion system performance seeking control is introduced. This paper first takes an overview of the performance seeking control (PSC) system of NASA, USA. Focused on the disadvantages of this original system, this paper studied the two most critical parts of the PSC system: engine deterioration parameter (EDP) estimation algorithm and integrated propulsion system optimization algorithm. On the study of EDP estimation algorithm, first, the linear robust Luenberger observer technique is studied. Then, a brand-new nonlinear EDP estimation algorithm is developed with full consideration of the characters of engine nonlinear simulation program. This new algorithm has a high estimation precision, low computation burden and simple structure. On the study of propulsion system optimization algorithm, first, the engine performance optimization problems are converted into one typical type of nonlinear optimization problem. Then, these problems are solved with model assisted pattern search (MAPS) algorithm. On the study of supersonic inlet optimization algorithm, first, the inlet performance curve is converted to facilitate curve interpolation. Then, with this converted performance curve, inlet optimization problem is converted to a simple nonlinear constrained optimization problem. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the above two problems from a totally new perspective. Also, some theoretical solutions are presented to the detail problems. It can be a new way to the integrated propulsion system performance seeking control design.
