Small Towns Center Environmental Design

The growing up of the small town is a great break-through of rural economy development; it is an inexorable trend in the transition process from planned economy to market economy. The small town that lies between urban and rural areas becomes the joint and contacted tie which merges urban and rural areas. The varied natural environment and multi-national of China have lead to a highly distinct geography character of traditional habit and architectural form. Under the popularization trend of internationalism architecture, the lost of the characters of cities and towns is also spread to the small towns, the faster of the economics development the quicker lost of its vernacular characters. It should be every architect' s historical responsibility to sustain the characters of the city and town and to create small town full of personality.The function and form of the public buildings at market towns approach to more and more complicate and pluralism under the working of the social, economics and culture forces etc. Following the constant developing of the China' s urbanization process, a large amount of buildings have been created in the public center by the contemporary architects. To deal with the relationship between the architecture design and the exterior space is one of the key questions to improve the construction quality in the urban area. Public space is the medium between buildings and small towns; it is the joint between architectural design and town planning, Buildings will not existing if it is isolated from the exterior environment. The harmony relationship must be designed between the buildings and exterior space if you want to design the high-quality buildings.To draw the questions of external environment and define its definition, this thesis introduces the concepts, characteristics and classification of the small towns first; this is the foundation for the future research and provides a clear concept for the later design practice. Then the thesis will start with from analyzing the shaping forces to the public centre environment revolution of small towns, analyses various multi-forces it receives and different characters it produces, and the classification it deduced; then interpret the theory background of the research topic, provide the theoretical foundation for setting-up of the design methodology. The public environment will be separate into three components to interpret with which are urban solid, public space and boundary, analysis the organic connections between three elements, pursue the practical methods during the process of research, and pursue the detailed case studies to the public small town center environment in He Nan province, use the theory stated in previous, following the "finding problem - analyzing question - giving answer" approach to analysis, to prospect certain directive significance to improve people' s living situation.
