A Study On Town-village Public Space Of Rural Tourism Under The Framework Of Urban-rural Integration

The overall urban-rural development is expected to give play to the advantages andimportance of urban and rural area respectively, which realizes the town-driving-country,country-promoting-town policy as well as coordinated and complementary developmentbetween each other by rational flow of various production factors and resources. It is auseful strategy to solve the negative impact of rapid urbanization and "San Nong"problems so as to achieve the harmonious development of society.For a long time, the vast majority of rural population and rural regions exist theproblems of sole industrial structure, passive economic development, lagginginfrastructure and the grim situation of gradual seriousness of ecological environmentetc, however, the unique rural landscape provides superior resources to develop tourism,which is beneficial to update functions and transform material space, relying on its ownlandscape resources. The urban economic resources can be attracted and the organicupdate of rural settlements should also be further promoted. Thus, it forms a virtuouscircle; promotes the ecological environment protection and rural industrial restructuring;change the sole industrial structure, low economic level, backward material conditionsand fragile ecological environment of rural areas and realize the integration of urbanand rural plan as a whole. As the daily production and living space of rural residents,rural public space plays a significant role in the development of rural tourism. Thetraditional agricultural service is hard to meet the functional requirements of moderntourism. It is necessary to update and restructure of its space so as to adapt to thedevelopment of rural tourism.This thesis aims at studying the renewal and reconstruction of rural tourism inpublic space of towns, a case study of the main public space on rural tourism landscapein the towns and countries of Si Chuan and Chongqing (street spaces of town andFarming area spaces of village). From such basis as formation causes, landscapeadvantages, existing problems of space, this thesis explores the impact of public spacesexerted by rural tourism as well as the coordinated development between the two underthe strategic relationship of urban-rural integration, in which the study focuses on thestrategy of coordinated development between urban-rural public space and rural tourismand discusses the special requirements and methods of its restructuring, for instance,overall control, landscape utilization, architectural design and space transformation etc, which provides references for the villages and towns of rural tourism developmentunder urban-rural integration.This thesis is made up of six chapters:Chapter One introduces the background and significance of the research; explainsthe basic concepts; determines the research object and scope under the framework ofrural public space of urban-rural integration as well as concludes the research route andmethod, which lays a foundation for the development of this thesis.Chapter Two depicts the features and causes of traditional rural space layout in SiChuan and Chong Qing and conducts a analytical study on formation causes andcharacteristics of streets (the main public space in town) and Farming area (the majorpublic space in village).Chapter Three explores the relationship and significance among urban-ruralintegration, rural tourism and the public space of rural areas. In addition, the developingprocesses and existing problems of ancient town tourism and sightseeing agriculturalleisure tourism are discussed, in which the former is centered on public space of streetsand the latter concentrates on Farming area.In accordance with the existing relevant theory and case analysis, especially thesummarization of successful experiences on rural public space in Si Chuan and ChongQing, Chapter Four proposes the transformation strategy on streets and Farming areaspace in view of rural tourism. An all-dimensional and multi-level elaboration is madefrom different perspectives, like overall control, landscape design as well asarchitectural design, which functions as the concrete measures of rural public spacetransformation under the framework of urban-rural integration.Chapter Five takes the author’ practice project (A Conceptual Planning and Designof new Peasant Village-Jing Xiu Yuan in Qi Jiang, ChongQing) as an example duringthe graduate study and discusses specific operation methods of rural public space underthe framework of urban-rural integration.Chapter Six arrives at a conclusion on the transformation significance, principle andstrategy of rural public space of rural tourism under the framework of urban-ruralintegration.
