Logic analyzer is a kind of instrument for digitized software and hardware analysis, and it's also one of the most important data domain test instruments. With the fast pace of digitization, application scope of logic analyzer is larger and larger, as well as more and more requirements to its function and performance. With utilization of computer, the virtual logic analyzer based on VXI bus system enables data transmission, process, display and storage, which is a breakthrough to the traditional instruments, and in another aspect, it can also greatly lower the cost of the instrument. This paper is based on my research and development work on the hardware side of the VXI Bus-based Logic Analyzer Module project. Firstly, it introduces logic analyzer's application in the field of data domain test, its marketing status and development trends, and emphasizes the working theory and hardware circuit construction of ES14V61 VXI logic analyzer. The paper also explains how to use drive function to program an application software. Modulation methodology is explained in details in the last Chapter. VXI bus logic analyzer module is a register-based modulization instrument of VXI bus interface that is with good trigger function, large storage and numbers of channels. Design of this module applies advanced programmable device, which enables complicated trigger functions, including random trigger, word trigger ,channel trigger, glitch trigger and external trigger. User can choose different trigger functions by need. Application of the technology of sampling in different phase in clock circuit realizes maximum 200M equivalent sampling rate of timing analyzer. Integrating the data storage controll circuit into the programmable chip facilitates function extension and upgrade. Application of block transimission mode in the VXI interface circuit greatly increase data transmission rate. As specified in the design requirements, the VXI logic analyzer module is of a great number of chips and fixed dimension; hence utilization of large numbers of programmable devices can enhance not only the system integrity but also the system reliability.This module is required to be put into practical use and production. Repetitive testing is made in accordance with the pre-prepared modulation guideline. The test result shows that this module is of stable and reliable performance and in full compliance with the specified specs, and therefore it can be put into practical use.
