Molded pulp is made of recyclable paper and it is widely used forcushion package because of its good properties such as lightweight, degradation and good air penetrability etc. There is no pollutant generatedduring production and application of molded pulp. However, a lot ofwork should be done to improve its design, manufacture, and application, especially to optimize the structure design of molded pulp at present. The study puts forward the structure cushioning mechanism on thebase of evaluating its material properties, structure and loads imposed tothe molded pulp and comes to the conclusion. A complex molded pulpcan be divided into several protrusions with simpler structure, and suchsimplification makes it possible to analyze the structure quantitatively. The cushion course of molded pulp is the process of these protrusions'deformation and energy absorption. On the base of the work above, thestudy discusses the relationship between structure parameters and stressof molded pulp through the simulation of the Finite Element Method(FEM), and concludes that such parameters as the thickness, the length ofside wall bearing load, the number and relative position of the protrusionsetc. influence the stress of molded pulp considerably. Four parameterscharacterizing the cushioning behavior have been advanced for thestructure design to forejudge the properties of molded pulp. The III北 京 化 工 大 学 硕 士 学 位 论 文parameters are the load per unit length, the number of bearing point inunit area, uniformity of bearing point, load per unit contact area.
